Presented  by
THE  SENIOR  CLASS
of

YADKIN  COUNTY  HIGH  SCHOOL
Boonville,  North  Carolina

Foreword

We, the class of 1956, are happy to be the first class to publish
a yearbook at Yadkin High School . It is presented as a record of the
happy days we have spent at our beloved Alma Mater and the happy
association we had in all of our activities.

We have attempted to give only a few highlights of our years'
experiences and interests here at Dear Old Yadkin High.

Here's hoping that this EAGLE will serve as an inspiration to
succeeding classes who will carry on the work.

HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1956

The history of the class of 1956 is a dramatic one. It began in the year of 1952 as we were
entering Yadkin High School as Freshmen.

Being a Freshman was very exciting to us because now we entered into our first year of high
school with twenty-two members strong, with a determination to do great things. We won second
place in the Annual Popularity Contest with Shelby Jean Dobson as our contestant.

In our Sophomore year we were getting use to the idea of being high school students, and
were ready to get down to work. But as it came to pass, many, with one consent began to make
excuses. The first said, I am poor in health; therefore, I cannot graduate. Another said, I am
dull and cannot learn, I pray thee have me excused. A third said, I must need toil at home,
therefore I cannot graduate. And still another said, I am going to be married and therefore I need
not graduate. So thus did this class decrease in number until the whole number at the end of the
second year was thirteen. But that did not stop us because we Were glad of the fact that we won
the Popularity Contest with yours truly, Georgia Juanita Stimpson as contestant. We were very
proud of ourselves because we made history. We were the first class to raise $527.70 for the
whole ten years the Popularity Contest had been going on.

Entering into our Junior year was very exciting because of the thoughts of being able to
give a Junior-Senior Prom. Every one said our prom was the most fascinating prom that had ever
been held at Yadkin High School. Everyone really enjoyed this event. Entering into the Popu-
larity Contest for the third year, we won third place with Edith Tucker as our contestant. And lo,
the total number in the class at the end of the third year was twelve.

Now this, the fourth year in the history of this great and wonderful class of 1956, has been
one of much hard labor and little resting by the way side; for preparations have been in the mak-
ing for us to take our final departure from this land. Our little band still numbers twelve.

During our Senior year we were invited to attend A. &T. College's Annual High School
Senior Day in Greensboro, North Carolina. We accepted the invitation with gratitude, and had
a wonderful time. With Laura Ruth Armstrong as our contestant in the Popularity Contest for the
Senior Class, we won third place and took it with a smile. But the most exciting thing to have
happened to us during our four years of high school, was the privilege of being able to publish
the first yearbook at Yadkin High School, namely: THE EAGLE. We feel proud of ourselves for
having the wonderful opportunity of publishing the first yearbook of this school, and we truly
hope the idea will be a success throughout the years to come. Many, many thanks to the faculty
and  friends  who  helped  us.

So it has come to pass that of the twenty-two that entered this land in the year of 1952,
only twelve will depart, for verily, verily, I say unto you that broad is the gate, and wide is the
way that leadeth to high school, and many there be that enter. But straight is the gate, and
narrow is the way that leadeth to graduation, and few there be that find it.

Four years hath the senior class of 1956 sojourned in the land and gathered in large portions
the fruits from the Tree of Knowledge. But it is written in the day when ye shall have eaten of
all these fruits, ye shall surely be driven from the land. Now, I say unto you we must depart
thence to go each a separate way to lands we know not of, to do we know not what. But let us
not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.

CLASS  PROPHECY

The story you are about to hear is true. The names are true in order that you
might see the progress made by the Yadkin County High School graduates of 1956.
It is now 1965. This story takes place in New York City at a fashion shop. My name
is Mme La Recamier the former Edith Tucker who owns the Fashion Shop. While I
was on my way to my shop I ran into one of my old classmates, Norvell Cundiff . We
had a long talk and we discussed our different professions over a cup of coffee. He
told me he was playing short-stop for the Brooklyn Dodgers. After our cup of coffee
he had to rush off to practice.

Later at the shop Mrs. Shelby Scales, the former Miss Shelby Dobson, the
wife of another Brooklyn Dodger player, came in to buy an outfit. We had a won-
derful time discussing old times. She told me she was the mother of two wonderful
children. After she left I looked through my mail, and I had a letter from my hus-
band stating that he would be in on the 4:15 afternoon plane with some of the lat-
est designs. At the airport where I was to meet him, I ran into three more of my old
classmates, Ella Sales, Thomas Glenn and William Carter. Ella was on her way
home from her air force base in California. She said she was a WAF and was off for
30 days. William and Thomas were air force officers now, and were on their way to
their different assignments. Thomas was going to a post in Japan and William to one
in China. Ella and I bade them good-bye as they boarded their plane. As Ella wait-
ed for her plane we discussed our other old classmates. She told me that she had
seen Laura Armstrong and Katie Sue Martin and that they both are happily married
in California. She also told me that she and Rosetta Thompson had been correspond-
ing regularly and that Rosetta and Elnora Harris had a beautiful Grade A Restaurant
in Winston-Salem. She also told me that Charlie Williams had stopped digging
graves and had started running a Funeral Home of his own.

As Ella's plane was leaving, my husband arrived on his plane, and we headed
for my shop. Whom do you imagine was there waiting to see me? None other than
Miss Georgia Stimpson. She informed me that she was engaged to marry Albert Scott
on  June  12th.

After Georgia left, my husband and I went out for dinner at the Theressa. It
was a wonderful dinner. I made it more interesting by telling my husband about all
my classmates I had met during the day, and what nice jobs they were employed in.
Yes, it is wonderful to know that the great class of 1956 has met with such success.

it in classrooms and the lunchroom.

of the past, and a pledge of friendship from henceforth and forever.

In witness whereof, We, the Class of 1956, the testators, have to this our will, set our

CLASS  POEM

The  Freshman  year  passed  quickly  by;

The thrilling year when we entered high.

The  Sophomore  Class  was  lots  of  fun;

But two more years were yet to come.

Our  Junior  year  passed  slowly  by;

Now as graduating Seniors we must say, good-bye,

But do fight on old Yadkin High.

The  road  we've  traveled  has  been  rugged  and  long;
The battle has been fought and the victory won.
We've  striven  along  for  four  long  years;
Although we've come in sorrow and tears.
We must now bid you good-bye,
But fight on old Yadkin High.

Out  into  this  world  we  go;

What are our aims" No one knows.

For us the future lies ahead,

And  to  this  school  as  we  have  often  said;

You've been successful in the years gone by,

But fight on old Yadkin High.

To  the  students  who  are  still  around;

Do not let old Yadkin down.

We  are  young  men  and  women  you  know;

We've traveled the path which you must go.

We say to this school without a sigh,

Do fight on old Yadkin High.
